Qualifications
Applicants must meet all of the following eligibility requirements:
- Be a citizen of the United States or a resident alien;
- Be at least eighteen (18) years of age;
- Be domiciled in the State of Hawaii and have a bona-fide intent to physically reside in the affordable housing unit for the duration of the lease agreement;
- The total gross household income shall not exceed the unit’s designated income limit;
- Have sufficient gross household income. Rental agent requires an income of at least 2x the monthly rent. Income minimum may vary for any prospect who is receiving rental assistance;
- Must have favorable credit and must pass criminal background screening;
- Be a person or household member who does not own, for the duration of the rental period, a majority interest in fee simple or leasehold lands suitable for dwelling purposes;
- The total net available household asset shall not exceed the unit’s designated income limit as adjusted by the household size.
**On a case-by-case basis, the eligibility requirements for affordable rental units may be modified or waived for City-supported special needs recipients, such as the elderly, disabled persons, or victims of domestic violence.**
